Why it works

The kids look at the world, not at a map

A bought treasure hunt happens somewhere generic. This one happens at the corner where you always stop, the tree they climb, the bench by the lake — because you made it there yourself. And the app never shows a map: it shows a photo and a distance, so the children have to look up and work out the direction between them.

How it works

Three steps, one walk

Step one

Walk the route once

At each stop, take a photo and add a multiple-choice question. Local knowledge, school subjects, family trivia — whatever suits the children you are making it for. Every change saves as you go.

Step two

Hand over the phone

The children see one photo and one number: the place they are looking for, and how far away it is. No arrow, no map, no route line. Finding it is the game.

Step three

Find, answer, celebrate

The question only appears once they are actually standing there, within about ten metres. Answer it and the next photo appears; get it wrong and there is a thirty-second wait before the next try. At the very end, your own message tells them where the real treasure is hidden.

The last stop

And then your own words

The hunt does not end on a scoreboard. It ends on the message you wrote before you set out — which is usually the bit that tells them where the real treasure is.

What you get

Everything you need to build a hunt

Photo waypoints

Take a picture at each stop. The children have to find that exact spot — not an address, not a pin on a map.

Distance only

The app shows how many metres away the next place is. Working out which way to walk is up to them.

Questions unlock on arrival

The question appears within about ten metres of the spot, so nobody plays the hunt from the sofa.

Multiple-choice quiz

Any topic you like. A wrong answer means a short thirty-second wait before the next attempt.

Your own finale

Finish with a personal message — “the treasure is behind the garden shed” — in your words.

Parents area with a PIN

Creating and editing sits behind a PIN, so the answers stay secret until the hunt is over.

Reuse your best stops

Copy waypoints out of earlier hunts into a new one, in whatever order suits the route.

Share with other families

Send a whole hunt to a phone nearby, or pass it on as a file by messenger, e-mail or Quick Share.

Skip ahead

Jump the game to any stop — useful when a path is closed, or when you want to restart halfway.

The parents area

Behind the PIN

Everything you build stays on your own phone. There is no account to create, no cloud to sync with, and nothing to cancel later.

Perfect for

Occasions that need a plan

Birthday parties

Eight children, two hours, and a route you already know. The hunt does the organising for you.

Sunday walks

The same walk as always, except now there is a reason to be out on it.

Holidays and city trips

Turn somewhere new into a quest instead of a list of sights to tick off.

School and holiday clubs

The questions double as a playful knowledge check, outdoors, for a whole class or group.

Grandparents

Set up a surprise before the grandchildren arrive, then simply hand over the phone.

Easter and Advent

Egg hunts and December surprises, with the clues built into the route itself.

Questions

Before you buy

Do the kids need internet?

No. Playing needs GPS only. Missions and photos are stored on the phone, so a hunt still works in a forest with no signal.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up and no cloud — everything stays on your device.

How do I give a hunt to another family?

Send it straight to a phone nearby, or share it as a file by messenger, e-mail or Quick Share. The other phone opens it in KidQuest.

Can the kids cheat?

Questions only appear on site, within about ten metres, and the parents area that holds every answer is behind a PIN.

Which languages does it speak?

English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch.

What does it cost?

€1.79 once, on Google Play. No ads, no in-app purchases and no subscription.

Is there an iPhone version?

Not yet. KidQuest is an Android app today, on Google Play. An iPhone version is planned, but we would rather not put a date on it than give you one we might miss.

Ready for the next walk?

Build your first hunt this afternoon, and hand over the phone at the weekend.
